Why do I get unmatched on Hinge?

The short answer

On Hinge, a match usually begins with someone liking a specific photo or prompt and often writing a comment on it. They have already read part of your profile, so an unmatch here points at what happened next - the conversation - far more often than at the profile itself.

That is the opposite of Tinder, where the unmatch is usually the profile being seen properly for the first time.

The most common cause: the reply that went nowhere

Someone likes your prompt about cooking and comments on it. The reply comes back as 'haha thanks' or 'yeah I like cooking'. There is now nothing to say, and the conversation dies in one move.

Answer the comment and add one thing back. Any specific detail will do - what you cooked, what went wrong, what you are trying next. The rule is simply that your message has to contain something to respond to.

The second: too many messages before anything is arranged

Hinge conversations decay. Two weeks of pleasant back-and-forth with no plan is one of the most reliable ways to be unmatched, because the interest that started it has a shelf life.

Suggest something concrete after a handful of exchanges. It does not have to be elaborate, it has to be an actual proposal with a day attached.

The third: the profile did contradict itself

This is rarer on Hinge but it happens. The liked photo is five years old and the rest are current, or the prompts describe someone the photos do not.

Hinge shows more of the profile per screen than the other apps, so inconsistency is more visible here, not less.

What Hinge tells you that the others do not

Because likes arrive attached to a specific photo or prompt, you can see which parts of your profile are doing the work. If every like lands on the same photo, the rest of the set is carrying nothing.

That is genuinely useful diagnostic data, and it is free. Use it to decide what to replace.
