How do I fix my dating life?

The short answer

Work outside in: the pool, then the profile, then the conversation, then the dates. Most people start at the end - rewriting the bio for the fifth time - while the actual bottleneck is that almost nobody is being shown the profile at all.

Fix one layer at a time and give each a week. Doing all four at once is how a month passes with nothing learned.

Layer 1: the pool

Widen distance and age. Check you are on an app people actually use where you live - the right app varies enormously by city and age group, and being on a quiet one looks exactly like being unattractive.

This layer is free, takes ten minutes, and explains more silent profiles than everything below it combined.

Layer 2: the profile

One clear lead photo where you are alone and your face is visible. Four to six photos that agree with it. Two or three plain lines about what you actually do, and nothing about what you do not want.

This is the layer with the highest return per hour, and the one where an outside opinion is worth most - you cannot see your own photos the way a stranger does.

Layer 3: the conversation

Match their message length, ask one question at a time, and suggest a specific plan within about a week. Most conversations that die were never going anywhere; the fix is to find that out sooner, not to prevent it.

Layer 4: the dates

Short, cheap, public, and early in the week. If you are getting dates but no second ones, that is a different problem from everything above and worth separating - it is the only layer where the profile is definitively not the cause.

If you only do one thing

Get the photo set looked at by someone with no stake in your feelings. It is the highest-leverage change available and the one nobody can do for themselves.
