Dating app tips for men that actually change the numbers

The short answer

For most men the match count is set almost entirely by the photos, and the single biggest gain comes from having a varied, well-lit set of six rather than three dark ones. Everything else on this list matters less than that.

The tips that get repeated online - be funny, be confident, use a dog - are not wrong so much as unmeasurable. These are the changes you can make this afternoon and read the result of.

1. Six photos, and no repeats

One clear head-and-shoulders in daylight. One full body. One of you doing something you actually do. One social photo where you are obviously the subject. Two more that are not variations of the first four.

Six angles of the same shirt in the same room reads as one photo and a lack of a life. Variety is doing more work here than attractiveness.

2. Include a full-body photo

Its absence is read as concealment, whether or not that is fair, and the assumption people fill the gap with is worse than the truth in almost every case.

It does not need to be flattering. It needs to exist, so that nothing about your profile looks like it is being hidden.

3. Cut the mirror selfie and the car selfie

Both say the same thing: nobody takes photos of me. That is a read about your social life, not your face, and it is hard to argue with once it lands.

A phone on a shelf with a ten-second timer, outdoors, beats both of them at zero cost.

4. Write two lines, not zero and not twenty

A blank bio reads as a bot. A long bio reads as a CV. Two or three plain lines about what you actually do, with one specific in them, is the whole requirement.

Delete anything that lists what you do not want. It is the fastest way to sound like hard work.

5. Widen your filters before you rewrite anything

Distance and age range compound with every other setting, and they are the only change that takes ten seconds. Widening distance by twenty miles routinely does more in a day than a week of editing.

It is also the change men most often have not tried, because it does not feel like effort.

What not to bother with

Paying for a boost while the profile is unfixed buys more impressions of something that is not converting. Fix the set first, then decide whether distribution is actually your problem.

Fixed the profile and still nothing? Sometimes it is the pool, not the photos - the same profile does different numbers on different apps. See which app suits you
