How do I start dating again after a divorce?

The short answer

Start with current photos and a plain statement of what you want. The two things that go wrong most often are an out-of-date photo set and a profile that avoids the subject entirely.

Your photos are probably too old

If the last time someone photographed you deliberately was during the marriage, your set is years old. That does not read as younger, it reads as inaccurate.

You need four to six current photos. A friend and a phone on a decent afternoon is enough. This is the single highest-value hour you can spend.

Say where you are

You do not owe anyone the story. But a profile that carefully avoids any mention of the last decade reads as evasive, and people fill the gap with a worse guess than the truth.

One clause is plenty. 'Recently out of a long marriage and figuring out what I want' is honest, unheavy, and filters well.

Expect the first month to be strange

The apps are a different medium from how you met people before, and the volume and the silence are both normal. Most people quit in week three, right before the profile changes start working.

Judge it on whether conversations improve, not on whether the first ones did.

Fixed the profile and still nothing? Sometimes it is the pool, not the photos - the same profile does different numbers on different apps. See which app suits you
